Historic Scotland

Historic Scotland maintains, and provides access to, over 300 historic properties across Scotland on behalf of Scottish Ministers. The Education Unit organises and delivers an annual programme of activities for schools, develops resources linked to the built environment and offers opportunities for lifelong learning at many of these sites nationwide.

In partnership with Am Baile, a schools' website has been developed for 2007, the Year of Highland Culture. The aim of the 'Our Place in Time' project is to facilitate greater use of local heritage resources in class projects whilst developing pupils' skills both in information technology and in research using primary evidence. The interactive website, available in both Gaelic and English, offers a series of curriculum based topic links to museum and heritage websites to guide teachers in planning work, and an easily navigated website where pupils can set up their own microsites and 'publish' the results of their class history projects online.
